Rolls of Thunder Here My Cry!!!

So, I have a confession... this is going to sound vain but bear with me here. I am very confident. This is not my opinion it is just the truth. You can only imagine how much confidence it takes to wear my hair like I do everyday in my profession... But there is one place where I lack confidence and that is my thighs. I havent worn under a size 12 in about 5 years and I have a gap in my teeth which I wear with pride but when it comes to my thighs I melt at the idea of them hanging out.
So, I was at this fabulous thrift store in Danville, VA a few weeks ago when I was visiting my in-laws and I spotted these shots... I would normally chuckle and walk right past them but on this warm and sunny day all I could think about was how fabulous it would be to have on a pair of shorts... so I picked them up. With the dollar price tag calling my thrifty minded name I purchased them secretly thinking that I will NEVER put them on.
Well, here I am... Standing before you facing my fear... letting my Rolls of Thunder ring out for all to see.
This summer I have made a promise that I am going to try to embrace my think thighs or change them... yeah, there's a novel idea. If you don't like something on your body you can easily change it with a few weeks of work and some dedication.

30 for 30

So, I guess you can say we needed a blog break... I didnt mean for it to be so long though... gosh guys we're sorry... BUT you know what time it is??? Time for Kendi's 30 for 30 Winter Challenge. Even though I am just now posting I have been ready and wearing my clothes since Feb 2. I hate saying the word slacker but that is the only word to describe my behavior

Even though we are participating in the 30 for 30 challenge we have added a little twist. Since we are such major thriftiers each day at least 80% to 100% of our outfits will be thrifted.
YEP!!! You heard me right... This is going to be fun.

PS: Kesha has misplaced her camera but as soon as she is able to locate it she will be springing back into action.

Orange You Glad...

I bought this sweater...I am :) I think im over the winter. Is it me or has it been cold for WAAAAYYYY too long? Wearing bright colors is my futile attempt at willing the cold temperatures to go away. Im sure my tune will change when the weather is 98 degrees

and I cant seem to breathe without inhaling humidity. Anywho, I digress. This is what I wore today.

As you can see, I am not wearing anything on my legs. This is due to the fact that as soon as I got home I started ripping off my "work clothes" so I could snuggle up with my hubby under my Snuggie(yes, I admit I have a Snuggie and I love it) and watch Family Feud. Well as Im snatching off my tights I realize I havent blogged an outfit in who knows how long. So being lazy and not wanting to re-dress myself they didnt make it back on my bod.

I promise to do better!

Sunny Snow Day!!!

So, today was our first time away from the house since Sunday. We didnt go far but we at least was away from 110 Kingswood Dr. Of course I didnt care how snowy it was I did make it to Target. It was so bazaar to see a grocery store with no eggs and bread. Because of the weather there was no truck deliveries.

On the way home we stopped for a quick photo shoot.

While in college I decided that I wanted to live in France so I moved to France and studied the language for a year. While I was there I went to 15 different countries in Europe and North Africa. Along the way I picked up shoes... lots and lots of shoes. These boots and the ones HERE

were purchased in Europe years ago... oh, how I miss European shoe shopping.

Fashion Below Zero

Flying Fancy Free!!!

So, After a long hard week I could not help but to pull this skirt out of my closet... something to cheer me up... I know, I know... it's black... But this skirt makes me feel like a lady. Its so extra for no reason and I love it.

So today around 1pm I get a knock at the door and to my surprise its my Mother... in hand she has a total "ditch work" package... She has a movie in one hand and waffle fries (which are my favorite) in the other. WOW... I didnt know how much I needed to just laugh and hang out... It was a blast!!!

So this is my husband...Aint he a cutie? Hes got the same love for thrifting as I do. If we go anywhere outside of our city limits, we plan to hit at least 2 or 3 thrift stores in that area. Our home, ourselves and our children are decked out in second hand jewels. Our first car that we purchased together was even procured from a local thrift store...a 1990 Infiniti Q45.

My husbands true vice now is Craigslist. I suppose its another form of thrifting :)

Thrifty Shopping Spree!!!

So, yesterday was the first day that we were able to actually shop after the 30 for 30 challenge and I made a B-Line to my favorite thrift stores. What I found inside was amazing.

Where do I begin?

Okay, so I am at a thrift store and my idea was to run in and out... well Keesha texted me to see what I was doing and like the great friend and faithful thrifter that she is she came to meet me. When she got there I had about 16 items of clothing in my hands and I was breathing erratically... I realized that I had not shopped in over 30 days... Soooo not like me! Well, this our favorite thrift store because you a grocery bag of clothing for $5. Yeah... so the idea is to get as much stuff in the bag as you can. Well just so you know... 16 items are NOT going to fit in one bag. So we decided to get two bags and split the price... well as my luck would have it I lost my debit card in the store!!! (scary)
I did find it right after Keesha had already paid for my bag. Geez... she is such a swell friend. After we left the first store I did make one more stop and get another bag for only $3. In total I got

3 pairs of pants
2 blazers
7 skirts
3 sweaters
7 shirts/blouses
6 belts
1 pair of shoes
and I got 1 my husband a neck tie (so he would not feel left out)

In TOTAL: I got 30 items for $13 ($10 of which was gifted)

I still have not stopped smiling. I actually had to buy more hangers in order to fit them into the closet. Amazing!!!

So I was looking into this skirt to see the size and what do I see? The name Christian Dior! This cranberry red skirt is amazing.

How perfect is a pink flannel shirt? Priceless

I am in Love with this amazing orange blazer. Its wrapped with a silver belt.

Move over TjMaxx and Marshall's... Thrifting is where its at... can I get an AMEN?

Challah!!

My church has a bread table provided by a local grocery store. When the bread products get close to their sell by date, the store gives it to churches and charities in the area. Its a great idea since it would be thrown out otherwise. So after service you can look and see if there is a bread, sweet or savory that you may want to give a good home.

This week I saw a absolutely gorgeous loaf of Challah(jewish egg bread) that I couldnt pass up. It sat on my counter for a few days until it was almost at the throw out stage. Me being the kind hearted soul that I am, I couldnt let this bread come close to missing its lifes purpose for a second time. So I made its last day on earth a good one....

French Toast

ingredients:

4 eggs
1/4 c. half and half
2 tbsp sugar
splash of vanilla
1 tsp cinnamon
pinch of salt
your favorite sliced bread(challah, french ect)
margarine or butter (for frying)

Melt 2 tbsp of margarine or butter in a skillet over medium heat .In a bowl, combine all ingredients to create a custard. Dip and coat both sides of sliced bread in custard. Lay slices of coated bread in skillet. Fry for aproximately 1 1/2 to 2 minutes on each side. Keep an eye on them so they dont burn faster than they cook.

Once cooked, top with your favorites! Strawberries and whipped cream with maple syrup are favorites in our house :)

Christian Siriano- Payless Spring 2011 Collection

So, okay speaking of Project Runway Favorites... Hands Down for me it was Mr. Fierce himself Christian Siriano.

J'adore Siriano!!!

So, I have to admit... I am a total thrift whore but when it comes to the shoes I am a total snob. It has to be extra special pair for me to even consider buying shoes from a thrift store... ie: the Born boots that Keesha found.

With that being said... I dont have a problem saying... I dont even buy my flip flops from Payless. (shout out to Old Navy 2 for$5)
So I have heard about Christians line of shoes at Payless but I thought that they had to be some 2 inch bla bla that made you look like a stump.

Well, I ran across his Spring 2011 collection and I am totally eating my words. I should have known that Ma'ma aint raised no fool and Christian would not have any plastic-leather foolishness with his name on it.

Honey, every single pair of shoes is totally to die for.

Now, Im not gonna get excited because I am so sure that they only made 11 of them and they are only sold at Payless in Barcelona, but the idea of Payless stepping it up is a Bravo.

Best Thrift Finds

I am so excited to share with you reason 4,762 on why you should shop at the Thrift Store.

So... the other day the husband and I were stopping at our normal thrifty shops.
As my eyes gazed across the lushes mounds of second hand treasures, I wandered towards the shoe section.
There perched on the middle row were 4 pair of barely worn shoes and boots. Now I know I dont "need" more shoes but this was a cant pass it by moment.

2 pair of Jessica Simpson pumps($2.75)
1 pair of Jessica Simpson knee high boots ($2.50)
and the is Cou de gra... 1 pair of Born, perfect knee high boots ($2.50)

I thought I was gonna lose my mind.

Now trust me, I have found some great name brand clothing... but NEVER in my wildest dreams did I think that I would find a pair on gentility used Born boots. They are like $300- $500 easily... and here I am walking on a million bucks and I only paid $2.50 for them.

Hands down, the best thrifty find ever.

Top Ramen Craving???

So, when I graduated from College there were a few things that I promised that I would never do again... and the one at the top of this list was eat Ramen Noodles! I had gotten so creative with them that I used to add butter and cheese... they were all that I could afford so I made them as good as possible.

Well, last week I was actually craving these 15cent noodles. I never thought that this would happen. But they are warm and salty... It had been more than 5 years since I had them so I went with my craving and indulged.

My husband will NOT eat them so I have to disguise them as rice noodles and stir fry.

I pulled out the old Wok and made a quick and easy meal... not to mention that it cost less than $5.

Bring water to a boil and add 2 packs of Top Ramen
In Wok or Saute pan, Stir Fry your frozen veggies with a little water and butter. (Fresh is always best)
Asian Vegetarian Gluten (comes in a can for about a $1.90 at the asian market)
Once noodles are done drain and add to wok.
Season with packaged seasoning

Serve and enjoy!
