Wild as the Taliban

Skirt/Dress: Thrift Gifted
Turban: Gifted from Jamaica
Sunny's: Dollar Tree (can you believe it $1)

So, my good friend over at the Fashionista Next Door was the inspiration for sporting this fashion turban. Hubby and I were enjoying a sunny day of shopping last week. When I walked out of the house he did not say anything about the turban and in his language that normally means that he likes what I am wearing. Well, we pulled up to the mall and I opened my car door and he stopped and was like "what are you doing, where are you going with that on your head"... With a chuckle in my voice I asked him what was wrong with it. I was trying to explain to him that it was something I was trying out. He is so funny, he was like... why do you have to ALWAYS be the one people to stare and point at? Such a funny moment. After a few people passed and complement me on being an individual he started warming up to the turban and even started walking next to me.

How do you all feel about the Fashion Turban?

(sn: I took some really cute pictures and made a mistake and deleted them all... I dont know what I was thinking... simpleton!!!)

Hair and Beauty Week:Day #1

So Ladies, its HAIR and Beauty WEEK!!!

I have had so many questions about what the heck I do to my crazy hair. I must admit up-front that I am no professional nor do I believe in using a ton of products. But I will break down what I do to my hair, maintenance, coloring and styling. I will also give some makeup tips that are so easy you will be able to perfect them before the weekend. I worked for M.A.C Cosmetics for years and though I do not wear as much makeup anymore, makeup is one of my first loves.
This week is going to be fun. I hope you all enjoy.

In order to know where you are going you have to remember where you have been.

Courtney also known as the Hubby in 2002
I actually got a perm in this picture, it was the first time since I 1997 and it lasted a day.

In 2008 I married the love of my life with all hair well past my bra straps... I actually cut off 7 inches and donated it to Locks of love.

After the big cut, I actually balled my head... which my husbands loves. I was allowing it to grow back finally in late 2009.

Sporting my natural hair color which is RARE!!! This was ummm, 2010?

Circa Now, big wild and unruly.

We would love to feature some of your "hair through the years" photos... just email us and will be happy to post them. Contact us at kdrsblog@gmail.com

Best Peanut Butter Sandwich

So, when reviewing a restaurant, if they have an item on their menu that is creamy, crunchy, salty, sweet and savory all at the same time NORMALLY that dish gets a big gold star from me. Well that is just what I have in my Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich. What makes this old classic perfect is that I added a few fabulous ingredients to kick it up a notch. Once your bread is toasted, which is key to having the perfect peanut butter and ANY sandwich you need to rub just a little bit of Kosher or Sea salt into the firmly toasted bread. I used some Red Hawaiian Sea Salt that I picked up from Earth Fare along with some Local Honey to just make it perfect. NOW, if you are having a diet cheat day spread a thin layer of butter on that outside of your bread and heat it in a non-stick skillet until brown... I promise this sandwich is restaurant worthy.

Cape Fear

Snow Leopard

So, this cape has been in the back of my closet for years. I actually almost gave it away a few times. My grandmother (who is 88 years old) gave it to me. She is so fabulous. She is probably reading this post on her iPad.
You guys I am scared of this cape... I love leopard and I LOVE capes but together I am just not sure. It has a short fur texture... Its loud and I wanna be brave enough to wear it... but I have big hair, big personality and them I have a Leopard cape... idk!
I thought that I would pull it out today to play snow leopard with hubby. We have been snowed in since Sunday... kinda getting stir crazy. Since I cant leave the house I made dinner tonight in this outfit... I havent put on real cloths since Saturday. We have been lounging in sweats and tshirts for days now. School is out again tomorrow (my husband is a teacher) so you know what that means... I am totally NOT working either. Clearly the Best Week Ever!!!

(the camera flash made this outfit a little X-rated)

I was planning on throwing this snow ball at my husband but he got me first.

Husband did a great job shooting pictures of me today... He was swell to come out in 30 degree weather. He didnt understand why I had shades on but I only had one word for him. Swagger!!!

Ps, Studded Stiletto Boots and 8 inches of snow dont mix. Just in case you were wondering

Resolution---- Smegasolution!!!

So, this morning as I was walking my dog around the block, I was trying to think of what my New Year resolutions would be for 2011. Every year they are just about the same... so it got me to thinking about all the lies that I have told myself over the years (depressing).

Enough with the "I'm gonna start doing this" and "I'm going to stop doing that" bla bla bla... instead of this big lengthy list of lies I am going to keep it simple... Just 2 resolutions this year. Beat the battle of the bulge and be the best person that I can be... that it!!! Im just keeping it simple. No more of these ideas of grandeur... I just want to be happy with me.

I Goggled the Top Ten New Year's Resolutions and I was not surprised to see getting fit, losing weight or trimming down coming in at #1 or at the very least #2 on everyone's list.

There are currently 308,958,436 living in America and most all of them (us) want to lose weight... well folks I have my secret weapon.

I have watched nothing short of Miracles occur on the Biggest Loser and now its my turn!!!
(singing) Are you ready for a Miracle?-- Ready as I can be!!!

Bob and Jillian will be my personal trainers when I pop in my Biggest Loser Ultimate Fitness workout game for the XBOX. Guys, I am so excited... we can finally put our XBox to some good use.

Well, guys... we hope you all have a wonderful and safe New Year. What ever your Resolutions are we wish you all the success in the world. Thank you for your support in 2010... looking forward to an even better 2011.

Cheers!!!

Thrifty Shopping Spree!!!

So, yesterday was the first day that we were able to actually shop after the 30 for 30 challenge and I made a B-Line to my favorite thrift stores. What I found inside was amazing.
Where do I begin?

Okay, so I am at a thrift store and my idea was to run in and out... well Keesha texted me to see what I was doing and like the great friend and faithful thrifter that she is she came to meet me. When she got there I had about 16 items of clothing in my hands and I was breathing erratically... I realized that I had not shopped in over 30 days... Soooo not like me! Well, this our favorite thrift store because you a grocery bag of clothing for $5. Yeah... so the idea is to get as much stuff in the bag as you can. Well just so you know... 16 items are NOT going to fit in one bag. So we decided to get two bags and split the price... well as my luck would have it I lost my debit card in the store!!! (scary)
I did find it right after Keesha had already paid for my bag. Geez... she is such a swell friend. After we left the first store I did make one more stop and get another bag for only $3. In total I got
  • 3 pairs of pants
  • 2 blazers
  • 7 skirts
  • 3 sweaters
  • 7 shirts/blouses
  • 6 belts
  • 1 pair of shoes
  • and I got 1 my husband a neck tie (so he would not feel left out)
In TOTAL: I got 30 items for $13 ($10 of which was gifted)

I still have not stopped smiling. I actually had to buy more hangers in order to fit them into the closet. Amazing!!!

These are some of the highlights from my shopping spree.

long camel colored cardigan

Long Pencil skirts in Green and Hot Pink
One with red leather belt and other with black Patent leather

These shoes actually did not go into the bag but they were only $1. Oh, How I love thrifting

This is my favorite find of the day. My cell phone camera sucks but its like hyper color. I love it!
It is SO long, but cant you see this being a great cocktail dress?

So I was looking into this skirt to see the size and what do I see? The name Christian Dior! This cranberry red skirt is amazing.

How perfect is a pink flannel shirt? Priceless

I am in Love with this amazing orange blazer. Its wrapped with a silver belt.

Move over TjMaxx and Marshall's... Thrifting is where its at... can I get an AMEN?

Im ALIVE and I am making Soup!!!

So, IM ALIVE!!!

Thank you guys for all of your "get well soon" messages. I had a horrible cold and am just now feeling back to normal.

I have so much to update you all on. Even though I was sick I was still trying to be a busy body while no one was looking.

I visited my favorite food blogger Shutter Bean and she made some broccoli soup that sounded to die for. Well since WalMart had fresh broccoli on sale for 70cent a pound I could not help but to send my husband there to get a few pounds. (You should have known that I wasnt going to actually go inside of walmart... have I ever shared with you all my detest for walmart?... Its a long story and I will save if for another day)

I LOVE getting meal ideas from ShutterBean... she is fabulous. I took her idea and added my own twist.

I know that we have all done things when we are sick and they do not turn out the way that they would normally if you were well... you know the meds kinda make you weird. Well even though the soup was fabulous I made it in the biggest pot in the world (lol)... I made 5 cups of soup in a 1000 gallon pot... idk!

What you will need:
Broccoli (recommended fresh with steams)
Vegetable Broth
Half and Half
Cream Cheese
Sour Cream
Onions
Cheddar Cheese (what ever type you like actually)
Homemade Croutons
Hot Chili Sause (optional)
Flour
Salt
Pepper
Butter

Allow your half stick of butter to melt and add your onions and broccoli.
Once the onions are soft you can add the flour. Stir well until onions and broccoli is coated.
Then add your broth, half and half or cream (if your feeling fancy). When you are pouring in your liquids make sure your stirring. The flour is going to thicken your soup. You don't need a lot just about 3-5 tablespoons.
You can then Add your sour cream and cream cheese and mix well until melted.
You dont want your soup to boil but you can keep the heat kinda high and get your broccoli cooked down.

Here is my secret weapon. Balsamic Vinegar it adds a little J'ne sais quoi that I really like in soup, next time your made Tomato soup add just a dash, it changes the taste of the acid in the tomato... its fabulous!
Okay, so now that your broccoli is soft, using your emulsion blender blend completely. Remember that you have steams and florets so make sure you blend well.

Once its blended well add your cheeses, salt and pepper to taste. Your going to love this soup. Its creamy and cheesy!!!

I topped mine with hot Chili Sauce. I made croutons for the hubby. I used a baguette, cut into cubes, brushed with olive oil and baked on 400 for 10-15 minutes.

I really hope that you enjoy the soup.

Okay so last thing. I have been using Mason Jars to store flour, sugar and nuts in lately and I finally got them all together for a picture. They are so handy, you can scoop out of them or pour into something. They are great... just a suggestion.
